Francis Degrandpré At Théâtre Corona

It's true that I may be getting a little long in the tooth and may not be up to date on all of the current celebrations, but Homecoming was never really as big of a deal up here as it was to our American friends South of the border.  However, after attending the concert by Francis Degrandpré at the Théâtre Corona on Thursday night, I have to seriously begin to ask why it never was.  It was a non-stop party from the opening notes as our Homecoming King hit the stage to loud guitars and bright fireworks.  From that point on, there was no stopping this runaway train of music.  The crowd was was roaring from the beginning as they sang the words back to just about every song that was played, and were were even treated to a cellphone serenade as everyone lit their devices to sway to the tunes.  This Montreal show was sold-out in advance and also served as a launching point for what will be a very busy year Francis as he has a large tour of Québec planned, highlighted by a spot in at the Lasso Festival this coming August.  His very first album, Soir de quai, was released last year and he describes it being about four of his favourite things.  Hunting, fishing, nature and having fun with friends.  One of my favourite things is being able to photograph theses shows and Francis Degrandpré put on a spectacle that some acts with ten times his experience don't produce.  The first two photographs were taken at f/3.2, 1/640sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm.  Here are several more photographs that I took of his performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Francis Degrandpré and his music, you can do so by following the link to his website.  At one point, he was joined on stage by a variety of other musicians and if you'd like to see those photographs, you can follow this link.  The night was opened by Andie Therio and you can see the photographs that I took of her performance by following this link.  A big thank you goes out to Véronique Labbé for getting me a pass to shoot the show.  As always, the opportunity was very much appreciated.  As I said in the previous update, Montreal is quickly becoming the Country Capital of Canada.  Francis Degrandpré may not currently be at the top of that mountain, but after more performances like the one we got on Thursday night, his star will only continue to rise.
