Though we were only about mid-way through November when this show took place, the number of dates on the calendar was rapidly getting smaller and smaller. What wasn't small, was the final blast of heavy metal music that was due to hit Montreal, live from the historic Théâtre Beanfield. One of the openers was a great band coming to us from Denver, Havok. They play the kind of metal that would have fit right in back in the 80s and can be considered to be a modern day equivalent of those times. With five albums to their name, Havok already had a nice back catalogue to play with, but they are still out there recording. Singer David Sanchez is the lead singer and lone remaining original member of the band, but he leads Havok with the passion of someone who has been doing this since forming the band while still in high school. He mentioned how they had just released a new EP, New Eyes, earlier this year. Havok were very proud of the achievement as it was their first self-produced effort without having to resort to using an outside record label. Both original songs from that EP, Death Is An Illusion and New Eyes were played and the crowd ate up every note. Us music fans are an unthankful bunch. We just got some new music, but we're already looking the future and asking for more. Luckily, Havok is sure to satisfy any and all musical cravings. In fact a Havok album, V, is scheduled to be released this coming May. Patience my audiophile friends, patience. The photographs were all taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO settings and focal lengths. Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of Havok while they performed on the Théâtre Beanfield stage.
If you would like to find out more about Havok and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you would like to see the photographs that I took of Exodus, who performed later that night, you can do so by following the link. Havok may be considered part of the 'new wave' of heavy metal, but they are already seasoned veterans of the studio and the road. Be sure to check them out when they play a show near you.
