I've had the good fortune to see many concerts over the years. But, despite having pretty much seen everything there is to see under the bright stage lights, it's always nice to see something different. Such was the case at Théâtre L'Olympia back in February. The first band to hit the stage that night was Alien Weaponry, and before a note was even played, they had grabbed my attention. Alien Weaponry opened their set with a Haka chant led by their drummer Henry de Jong. While I have seen this kind of thing take place at Rugby matches and other sporting event, I’ve never seen this done at a concert before. It was the perfect opening call to arms for the heavy set they were about to play and immediately helped then stand apart from the other many bands that I have seen. Hailing from New Zealand, Alien Weaponry incorporate a lot of
their culture in to their music. All three members of the band share a Māori ancestry as a group of people who originally arrived on the island in the 1300s and several of Alien Weapony's songs are performed either entirely or partially in the Māori language. Alien Weaponry already have already released two albums, but shared with the crowd that a new album, Te rā, had been completed and was due to be released in late March. That will certainly be a release worth looking forward to. All of the photographs were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO settings and focal lengths. Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of Alien Weaponry while they performed on the Théâtre L'Olympia stage.
If you would like to find out more about Alien Weaponry and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you would like to see the photographs that I took of Municipal Waste and Kerry King, who also performed later that night, you an do so by following the respective links. Alien Weaponry make some great music while also remaining true to their roots. Be sure to check Alien Weaponry out if they end up playing a show near you.
