Aleksi Campagne At Parc Empire

The weather has been a real pain so far this Summer.  To go along with the heat and humidity, some very poorly timed rain showers and storms have already led to three cancelled outdoor concerts that I was hoping to shoot.  With that in mind, the sky was clear for the latest concert put on by the Ville de Longueuil and Longueuil est Culture so we headed out the door before Mother Nature had a chance to change her mind.  The concert featured some very local talent.  Local enough to have been able to walk down to where the concert was held from the house he had grown up in.  Aleksi Campagne grew up in Greenfield Park, and it obviously helped mold him into the artist he has begun.  One of the remaining anglophone communities in the Province, Aleksi used his language to his advantage by singing tunes in both English and French, often time switching effortlessly between the two in the same song.  In fact, his debut album, For The Giving/Sans Rien Donner, features twenty tracks.  That's ten songs, but each one is recorded in French and also in English.  He called it his pandemic project.  I suppose that with all of that lock-down time, it would be possible to create a bilingual album.  It certainly went over very well with the hometown crowd, who cheered along to all of the songs.  He didn't just earn the stage by being a local product.  Aleksi is a product of McGill University and has been performing on stage since he was a little kid.  He also studied Jazz violin in Paris, while also being the very first student to be accepted to McGill in the classical violin, jazz violin and jazz voice performance programs at McGill.  After that, we'll just skip over what I accomplished in my University days.  All of that ended up being presented in one awesome musical package.  The fine folks of Greenfield Park were certainly treated to some great music on this night.  I hope it was a sweet homecoming for him, because it was certainly a treat for my ears.  The first photograph was taken at f/5.6, 1/640sec, ISO 1250 at 142mm and the second photograph was taken at f/5.6, 1/800sec, ISO 1250 at 102mm and the third photograph was taken at f/5.6, 1/500sec, ISO 1250 at 155mm.  Here are several more photographs of his performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Aleksi Campagne and his music, you can do so by following the link to his website.  A thank you to the Ville de Longueuil and Longueuil est Culture for putting these concerts together.  It was a terrific night for music in the park and Aleksi Campagne was the perfect performer for the evening. His career is only just taking off, so here's to hoping he continues on with it.  I, and many others, can't wait to hear what will come next, and in what language it will come in.
