The Dirty Nil At Café Campus

I've been fortunate to shoot several concerts since 'The Plague' has calmed down a bit, but there was still one of my regular shooting haunts that had yet to see me return.  That would be the Café Campus in Montreal.  It was my first time back to it's cozy confines since 2019 and I can't think of a better band to see play there than The Dirty Nil, from Hamilton, Ontario.  It was a cold and wet evening as a record rainfall was hitting the city and the temperatures had crashed to more seasonal levels compared to the second Summer we had been experiencing days before.  As usual, I arrived early to the venue and got to pass the time conversing with a nice woman who was seeing them for the 21st time.  It was only my first time seeing The Dirty Nil perform live, but it was certainly a performance that made it easy to forget the wretched weather outside.  I first discovered The Dirty Nil back in 2018 when their hit single 'That's What Heaven Feels Like' was being played often on CHOM 97.7FM.  During the pandemic, their album 'F*ck Art', which was released on New Year's Day 2021, got lots of play during my morning walks with the very young Heir Apparent.  Their most recent album, 'Free Reign To Passions', was released in late May of this year and this was their final stop of a little tour to promote the album.  The performance was awesome, and the trio seem like great people.  My friend from earlier in the evening was met with a big hug from lead singer Luke Bentham upon him seeing her after hitting the stage.  It's nice to see bands recognize those super fans that are out there.  They certainly made a few more super fans over the course of the night as the place was rocking and everyone looked to be having a great time.    We even got treated to a special guest vocal from Alexisonfire lead singer, George Pettit, who performed earlier with his other band, Dead Tired.  The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/80sec, ISO 16000 at 24mm, the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/160sec, ISO 16000 at 24mm and the third photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/80sec, ISO 16000 at 44mm.  There was no photo pit for the show so I had free reign to shoot all show, which I took advantage of.  As a result, here are several more photographs that I took during their performance.

If you'd like to find out more about The Dirty Nil and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website.  A big thank you goes out to Oliver Mitchell and Nicole Baturin of Unified Music Group for getting me a pass to photograph the show.  As usual, it was very much appreciated.  If you'd like to see the photographs of Mvll Crimes and Dead Tired, who performed earlier in the evening, you can do so by following the respective links.  The Dirty Nil will be heading out East this December, and they'll surely find their way back to these parts soon.  Head out to see them for an awesome show.
