A night of heavy metal madness was in the cards over at the MTelus in Montreal a little more than a week ago. We had a triple bill that ended up being opened by one of the originators of the Thrash Metal genre, Possessed. Hailing from the birthplace of thrash, San Francisco, Possessed have been there since the very beginning. Their sound is right on mark and you can easily understand how they were able to inspire a legion of bands who would go on to follow in their musical footsteps. Though confined to a
wheel chair after being shot in 1989 while being robbed, vocalist Jeff Becerra is in fine
spirits. Pointing and making eye contact
with every fan throwing their horns his way.
The man is paralyzed from the waist down and is up there giving his
all. That is reason enough to cheer on
one of the founding fathers of thrash and death metal, but the band is
great as
well. Their set comprises mostly songs
from their legendary 1985 debut, ‘Seven Churches’, and their most recent album,
2019’s ‘Revelations of Oblivion’. The
set was short, but the love from the crowd was real. They appreciated the history that was up on the stage, and the dedication of a singer who clearly wasn't letting his limitations limit him. As an added bonus, he was also treated to a few adult beverages during the set from some of the generous members of the audience. All of the photographs were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO setting and focal lengths. Here are several more of my photographs of Possessed, taken during their MTelus performance.
If you would like to find out more about Possessed and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you would like to see the photographs I took of Kreator and Testament, who were also performing that night, you can do so by following the respective links. I've always been a fan of history. You can trace a line back from here in 2024 to the 1980s, and that line of thrash metal leads to Possessed. Be sure to check them out when they come to your town.
