It was back to the MTelus for what was easily one of the loudest shows of 2025. Having the honour of opening up this four-headed metal monster was Unearth. Direct from Boston, Unearth took the difficult
6:00PM start time and made the people who came out early to see them not regret
the decision. It was after announcing where they were from that I immediately noticed there is not much of a cross over between Montreal's sports and music fans. An admission of being from Boston in the hockey arena would have been almost as bad as admitting being from Toronto. But on this night, nary a boo was to be heard. Perhaps it was also because the band was so good that nobody seemed to care that they were from Bruins country. Singer Trevor Phipps got
the circle pits going early and often as the fans took his requests, or should
I say
demands, to heart. Unearth was the
only band on the bill that I had not seen play live before, but they were a powerful
musical force to be reckoned with and did their job by whipping the crowd into
an early frenzy. Their most recent album, The Wretched; the Ruinous, was released in January of 2023, though Unearth did release a digital only EP of new material, Bask in the Blood of our Demons, last year. Perhaps a new full length album will be appearing soon. If so, we can all look forward to their return to Montreal in the near future. All of the photographs of Unearth were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO setting and focal lengths. Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of Unearth as they performed up on the MTelus stage.
If you would like to find out more about Unearth and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you would like to see the photographs that I took of Lacuna Coil, In Flames and Machine Head, who also performed that night, you can do so by following the respective links. Unearth put on a great show and I would love to see them get a little more time than being a 6:00PM opener. I'm sure that it would be awesome. Be sure to check out Unearth when they performer in a town near you.
