The headquarters for Canada Day on the South Shore is Greenfield Park. Every year they put on a full day of activities, a parade and then close the day with fireworks and musical acts. I made my return to the 'Park' yesterday to take in the music and try to lose a few pounds by way of sweat in the 40 degree heat. In other words, this is the beginning of another huge week of updates as I ended up staying to shoot all four groups that were performing. First on the list was Justine Blanchet. A 16 year-old from Greenfield Park who comes from a musical family and has been performing since she was very young. I try and do a little research on the acts that I photograph, and in doing so I learned that she had won First Place in a musical competition at the Brome Fair. Dating back to 1856, the Brome Fair is the largest rural fair in Quebec, and also an event where my family members have worked, and I went to several times when I was younger. With all of those local connections, I felt that I had to attend the show. Justine sang a collection of cover tunes as well as some of her own songs as well, keeping the brave souls who came out and braved the heat entertained. The first photograph was taken at f/4.5, 1/500sec, ISO 400 at 115mm and the second photograph was taken at f/4.5, 1/400sec, ISO 400 at 110mm. Here are some more photographs that I took during Justine's set.

Thinking back, most of my time spent as a 16 year-old involved video games and reading comic books, so I was impressed with the show. Justine returned to the stage later in the evening to sing a few songs with headliner Matt Lang, who will be having some photographs up here on the blog soon. She did a great job opening the evening of music, here's to hoping for a great future in music for her.
