We're a little bit backed up on getting my concert photographs up here
on The Old Blog. I suppose we will catch up at some point, but this
would be a good time to remind you that my concert photographs can be
seen in a much more timely manner by visiting V13Media, which you can do
by following the link. If you'd like an even more direct route to my
photographs, you can visit my personal page over there but using the
following link. Back in June, we were off to the Place Bell in Laval for a double shot of rock and roll. The evening got off to a rough
start as after sitting through 40 minutes of traffic and getting half way to
the venue, my Spidey Sense kicked in to let me know that my battery grip was
still on the kitchen counter at home. I
managed to make it back to the arena with minutes to spare before Three Days
Grace hit the stage and was very thankful that I did. With original singer Adam Gontier back in the
band, Three Days Grace have become a two headed vocal monster as Adam shares
the stage with Matt Walst. The two trade
lyrics off each other while looking like their having the time of their
lives. The band opened with “Animal I
Have Become” and it was apparent from the opening notes that they were there to
leave a mark. While most of the attention goes
to both singers, not to be forgotten is guitarist Barry Stock. He shreds with the best of them while making
the complex riffs and melodies seem effortless.
He also has the best beard this side of ZZ Top. The band have a new album, Alienation, due this month that features both
singers and they debuted a couple of songs from the
new album, “Apologies” and “Mayday”.
The rest of their set was a collection of hits from the last twenty
years and a very solemn version of the Alice In Chains hit “Rooster”. Three Days Grace were making their second
appearance in the Montreal area this year, and the way that the crowd was
reacting, they wouldn’t mind seeing them again. Who says it can’t happen? The old saying never two without three certainly would apply. I think that it's also a safe bet that Three Days Grace would once gain draw a huge crowd as this town certainly loves their music. All of the photographs were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO settings and focal lengths. Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of Three Days Grace as they performed on the Place Bell stage.
If you would like to find out more about Three Days Grace and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you would like to see the photographs that I took of Volbeat, who performed later that evening, you can do so by following the link. Three Days Grace have been on fire of late and the return of Adam Gontier has given them the kind of feel good story that people love to see. The dual lead singers makes for a unique situation and the band have also risen to a new level. Be sure to check out Three Days Grace when they end up visiting a town near you.
