April Wine At Place Bell

We're a little bit backed up on getting my concert photographs up here on The Old Blog.  I suppose we will catch up at some point, but this would be a good time to remind you that my concert photographs can be seen in a much more timely manner by visiting V13 Media, which you can do by following the link.  If you'd like an even more direct route to my photographs, you can visit my personal page over there but using the following link.  There were some familiar faces, joined by a couple of new ones a few weeks back at the Place Bell in Laval.  Canada Day may have still been a few weeks away, but this show featured a couple of legendary Canadian rock bands.  Chosen to open the show was another legendary Canadian band, April Wine. Father Time hasn’t been kind to the band of late. Singer Myles Goodwin, the final remaining original member of the band, sadly passed away in 2023, a mere few months after having stepped down due to his health. The strongest link to the past comes from guitarist Brian Greenway, who has been around since the late ’70s.  April Wine got right to the point by opening their set with “I Like To Rock.” Singer Marc Parent, hand-chosen by Myles Goodwin, seemed to take a verse or two to warm up, but by the chorus was roaring. The crowd was having a great time as well. Singing back the classics that they have been listening to for years. “Oowatanite” followed, with the signature fire bell getting a special spotlight of its own.  Cell phone lights lit the building for “Just Between You and Me.” The back-to-back rock of “Sign Of The Gypsy Queen” and “Roller” brought their portion of the evening to a riotous close. They may not be the April Wine of old, but this version of the band delivered what the fans wanted to hear. This new version of the band haven't recorded anything new, but they performed the great songs of their catalogue to near perfection.  Maybe something new will come down the road, but for now, April Wine are giving their fans a great show filled with all of the great songs that they know and love.  All of the photographs were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO settings and focal lengths.  Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of April Wine while they performed on the Place Bell stage.

If you would like to find out more about April Wine and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website.  If you would like to see the photographs that I took of Triumph, who performed later that night, you can do so by following the link.  The April Wine name is gold in Canada.  It's sad that not more of the original band it still around, but those that are put on a terrific show that honour the sound of the band, and all the other members who came before them.  Don't you dare miss it when they perform in a town near you.
