Anonymus At Théâtre Beanfield

Back to the Théâtre Beanfield we go for our big night of Montreal Metal last weekend.  Our headliner was Sword, you can see the photographs by following the link, and the band that was second from the top was another legendary Montreal band, Anonymus.  This band is a local institution, and they are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year.  35 years without any breaks or multiple line-up changes, as singer Oscar Souto proudly yelled to the crowd who were more than happy to reply with a monstrous cheer.  In a place where language is sadly a big issue, Anonymus proudly perform in several languages.  Back in 1997, they released the album 'Stress', which featured songs in French, English, Spanish and Italian, while their most recent album, 'La Bestia', which was released in 2020, is in French and Spanish.  They've been playing together since they were in High School and the camaraderie shows not only in the music, but in their interactions on the stage.  You can see the friendship and you can also see the appreciation that they have for their fans.  Musically, there is no escaping their onslaught.  This was my first time seeing them live, and I can't believe that it has taken me so long to do so.  They play the kind of metal that I grew up listening too, and their sound is very similar to other bands that I like.  I spent lots of my time in the pit telling myself to stop banging my head to the music and to start taking some pictures because those three songs go by fast.  Once my three songs were up, rather than make my way to the back to wait for the next set, I stuck around the side of the floor as close as I could in order to properly experience not only the music, but the crowd as well because they were going all out.  And who can blame them.  Everything just seemed to be clicking perfectly.  The music, the fans, the venue.  It was just an awesome musical moment in time.  I don't know if it applies to a band that has been around for 35 years, but Anonymus definitely ranks high on the list of opening bands that I am happy to be found.  Now I just need to stop kicking myself and figure out why it took me 35 years to discover them.  The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/320sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm.  The second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/400sec, ISO 3200 at 44mm and the third photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/400sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm.  Here are several more photographs that I took of their performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Anonymus and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website.  If you'd like to see the photographs that I took of Atomik Train who opened the show, Vantablack Warship and Sword, who headlined the evening, you can do so by following the link.  Anonymus were an awesome discovery, even if it was a discover that many others made several decades ago.  As the old saying goes, better late than never.  If you're a fan of old school metal and 80's thrash, Anonymus is sure to be what you're looking for, no matter what language you speak.
