It's time to play a little bit of catch-up with a couple of shows that I shot in late December. There was a big show over at the Place Bell in Laval, and the opening band for the evening was Whitechapel. I'll be perfectly honest, Deathcore isn't really my scene, but these metal bands generally put on terrific shows with interesting lighting. That, and I immediately got a little more interested in finding our more about the band upon discovering that they chose to name themselves Whitechapel after the famous district in London where Jack The Ripper committed his grisly murders in the late 1880s. Like the historical criminal who terrorized the region, Whitechapel play with a surgical precision. That's to be expected of band that has been together for almost 20 years now and has most of the original members still around. Being the opening band on a four band bill doesn't leave much in terms of set time to make an impression, but they certainly had as big of a following as any of the bands who followed them. Generally for such a large show, it takes some time for the place to fill as the fans of the headliners know their band won't play until later in the night, but the place was pretty full by the time that Whitechapel hit the stage. They also won the t-shirt contest of the night as the majority of shirts that I saw on fans during my Metro ride home had the Whitechapel logo on them. The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/125sec, ISO 2500 at 24mm and the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/320sec, ISO 4000 at 70mm. Here are several more photographs that I took of their performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Whitechapel and their music, you can do so by following the link to their website. If you'd like to see the photographs that I took of Voivod, In Flames and Meshuggah, who also performed that night, you can do so by following the respective link. Despite being limited time wise and playing on a cramped stage, Whitchapel gave a performance worthy of a headliner. Check them out if they end up performing near you.
