I know that I have said it here several times, but it never ceases to be the case. My favourite part about photographing concerts is being able to make a cool discovery while photographing the opening act. Such was the case once again the other night at the MTelus in Montreal where Beast In Black was performing. The band formed in 2015 and released their first album two years later, Berserker, which performed well on the charts in their native Finland and have been growing a much wider audience ever since. They were so fun to photograph as well. Everyone made menacing faces and goofy smiles for all of the photographers in the pit. I think guitarist Kasperi Heikkinen made it her personal mission to do a solo in front of each of us down there. I also ended up with a photograph of the happiest drummer I have ever seen. I still chuckle when I look at it. They were touring for their latest album, Dark Connection, which was released last year. Opening bands don't usually get to play before a full house as some people tend to only arrive for the headliner, but the MTelus was packed before they even hit the stage. I'm not sure how many of those people who showed up early were there for them, but they had certainly won over the crowd by the end of their set as the whole building was chanting "Beast in black!" over and over as they left the stage. The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/800sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm and the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/320sec, ISO 6400 at 24mm. Here are several more photographs that I took of their performance.
