It's rare that I arrive at a concert venue to find that the building is already full. Usually, people tend to arrive a little later, especially is they don't know the opening band. There are some occasions though where the building is already at maximum capacity and that was the case last night at the MTelus in Montreal where the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish were about the blow the roof off of the place. Formed in 1996, they released their first album, Angles Fall First, one year later and by 2004 were nearly on top of the world with the release of their album Once. There have been some line-up changes along the way, but founding members Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen have remained to keep the band on track. Current singer Floor Jansen, who has been with the band since 2013, grabbed all of the attention right away as her powerful voice and stage presence risked overshadowing everyone else. Nightwish have been known for having powerful female vocalist, and as a soprano with a more than three octave range, Jansen's voice dominated right from the opening notes. Nightwish were here touring their most recent album, Human. :II: Nature., which was released in 2020. As with many bands, this show was originally supposed to happen two years ago, but got constantly rescheduled due to COVID. I'm sure that everyone in the audience that was going wild will tell you that the show was worth waiting for. The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/250sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm and the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/250sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm. Here are several more photographs of their performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Nightwish
and their music, you can follow the link to their website. If you'd
like to see the photographs of Beast In Black, who opened the concert,
you can do so by following this link. Much thanks to Ewo Pohjola of Till Dawn They Count Ltd, for getting me a pass to the show. What a great evening. Both band were terrific, the crowd was electric and you could feel the energy coursing through the building. Nightwish have always been near the top of the symphonic metal genre, and from what I saw, nobody is anywhere close to knocking them from their throne. Eläköön Nightwish!
