Our very first performer at the big Fête Nationale party in Longueuil on Friday night was the unforgettable Sarahmée. Originally from Senegal, Sarahmée came to Québec as a child and has grown to become one of our most powerful and distictive voices. The crowd was already in a festive mood and buzzing with anticipation as they awaited her arrival. I had heard Sarahmée's songs on the radio before, but there is nothing like a live performance. Especially when the performer has such a powerful voice and stage presence. That presence only got amplified with the arrival of her two dancers, Angie & Lily. The three of them were clearly enjoying the party. The fun thing about these outdoor performances is that I have access to the pit for the entire performance. I had never seen Sarahmée in concert before, so I was very lucky to have a front of the stage spot of my own. I didn't spend all of my time there as I didn't want to block the view of the others behind me, but being front row, or even at the ends of the stage, it was quite the experience to take it. Speaking of experiences, it was quite fun to be doing some of my editing of these photographs afterwards and being joined by The Heir Apparent who wanted to know why the guitarist had taken my hat. I don't know about him, but I was sweating like crazy in the heat, so I assured The Heir Apparent that not only was it not mine, but had he taken my hat, it would have been very quickly returned. The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/320sec, ISO 1600 at 45mm and the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/400sec, ISO 1600 at 24mm. Here are several more photographs of her performance.

Sarahmée At Fête Nationale
f/3.2, 1/500sec, ISO 2000 at 63mm
If you'd like to find out more about Sarahmée and her music, you can do so by following the link to her website. If you'd like to see the photographs that I took of Erich Preach or Clay & Friends, you can do so by following the respective links. A big merci beaucoup to Line Tremblay of Ville de Longueuil for getting me a pass to shoot the shows. I can't really say enough about the performance. I'm not really a rap fan per say, but I am a fan of talent, and Sarahmée's voice and messages still resonate in my ears. A performance not be missed if she is playing near you.
