Volbeat At Place Bell

Headlining our musical double bill this past Wedneday night at the Place Bell was Danish hard rock sensations, Volbeat.  Rock and Roll has been around for decades and Volbeat plays a particular brand that is all their own.  A mix of hard rock madness with some old time rock and roll mixted in to the batter to create what some have called Boogie Metal.  I kind of like that term.  Another term I discovered that was used to describe Volbeat and their sound was that they were 'hard rock's psycho-billy freight train'.  Thank goodness there are better writers than me out there to think out such colourful terms.  Before they hit the stage, the song 'Born To Raise Hell' by the legendary Lemmy of Motorhead played, which I found to be rather appropriate as the song contains the lyric "Listen up here, I'll make it quite clear, I'm gonna put some boogie in your ear. Shake and bop, don't you stop, Dance like a maniac until you drop."  Those few words seem to encapsulate the Volbeat sound.  The music comes at you hard and heavy, but also makes you tap your toes and wiggle away to your hearts content.  I first discovered them back in 2016 when their hit single 'The Devil's Bleeding Crown' was getting played here on the radio and have been following them since.  Their most recent album, Servant Of The Mind was released back in December of 2021 and was recorded during the pandemic after a large tour they were scheduled to be on got cancelled.  They sounded great and were having a great time up on the stage as there were smiles from ear to ear.  The first photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/250sec, ISO 5000 at 31mm and the second photograph was taken at f/3.2, 1/800sec, ISO 5000 at 35mm.  Here are several more photographs of their performance.

If you'd like to find out more about Volbeat and their music, you can follow the link to their website.  If you'd like to see the photographs that I took of Halestorm, who played earlier in the evening, you can do so by following the link. A big thank you goes out to good folks at Q Prime Management and Shane Handal of Atom Splitter PR for getting me a pass to shoot the band.  As always, it is very much appreciated.  Volbeat was great fun to watch and listen to.  There's only two dates left on their current tour, so be sure to catch them the next time they hit the road.
