We're a little bit backed up on getting my concert photographs up here
on The Old Blog. I suppose we will catch up at some point, but this
would be a good time to remind you that my concert photographs can be
seen in a much more timely manner by visiting V13Media, which you can do
by following the link. If you'd like an even more direct route to my
photographs, you can visit my personal page over there but using the
following link. An iconic
voice deserves to be heard inside of an iconic building. That
is what the fans of Montreal were treated to on Wednesday night. Sarah McLachlan was in town and performing
at Salle Wilfred Pelletier, part of the Place des Arts complex. This tour
is celebrating the 30th anniversary
of her stellar Fumbling Towards
Ecstasy album. The tour came to an
abrupt halt last year due to a bout of laryngitis. In a sad case of history repeating itself,
Sarah hit the Place des Arts stage amid news that she may be suffering from laryngitis
once again. She opened
the concert with three of her classic tracks.
After hitting the stage as the sun behind her emerged from an eclipse,
Sarah McLachlan was met with a roar from the crowd. “Sweet Surrender” brought the crowd to their
feet. They swayed, danced and sang along
to the song. She thanked the crowd for
singing along, saying their help would be needed on this evening. She was, in fact, dealing with a bout of
laryngitis once again. A guitar
was brought on stage for “Building A Mystery”, which Sarah powered through
before chatting with the crowd a little bit.
She
asked the crowd to forgive her for her “phone sex voice”. Sarah McLachlan may not have been feeling her best, but
she was out there to give the crowd everything that she had. After a
quick sip to relieve her throat, Sarah sat behind the grand piano on stage for
“I Will Remember You”. After a couple of
tracks from her latest album, Better Broken, we got to “Possession”. Side One, Track One of the album everyone was
there to celebrate. Sarah McLachlan made it through the entire album with the entire Salle Wilfred Pelletier crowd willing her on. Long applauses and shouts of encouragement could be heard through the evening. She also got some vocal help from the awesome
Melissa McClelland. Joined by her
husband Luke Doucet on guitar, the duo, who also perform together as the band Whitehorse, made a formidable
tag team to help back
up our fighting singer. Illness resulted in a shortened set list on this night, but had it not been for Sarah
mentioning her vocal issues, I may not have noticed. All things considered, her voice still
sounded great. Sadly, we found out the next day that a planned second
performance on Thursday night had to be cancelled, as well as another after that scheduled for the weekend. We certainly hope that
Sarah will be back on her feet again soon. A voice like hers certainly can't be held down for very long. Place des Arts, and all of her fans, will certainly be waiting to welcome her back upon her return. All of the photographs were taken at f/3.2 while using various different shutter speeds, ISO settings and focal lengths. Here are the rest of the photographs that I took of Sarah McLachlan while she performed on the Place Des Arts stage. If you would like to find out more about Sarah McLachlan and her music, you can do so by following the link to her website. Much thank to Sarah McLachlan's team at Macklam Feldman Management, Evenko and Christopher Gonda of V13 Media for getting me a pass to photograph the show. As always, it is very much appreciated. The
Fumbling Towards Ecstacy tour is scheduled to continue in to the beginning of
November. Hopefully Sarah McLachlan
will be able to make those dates and share her tremendous voice with her
fans. Don’t you dare miss it when the
tour arrives in a town near you.
