I ended up getting a photo pass for the Montreal Jazz Festival that allowed me to visit any of the free outdoor concerts as well as having access to most of the venues for June 30th. Looking to make the most of this access, the first artist I visited was Sasha Berliner. Hailing from San Francisco, she played several of her compositions on her vibraphone, accompanied by a backing band. I ended up arriving a little late at her stage and was stuck near the back, but I was able to squirm around a little bit to find some clear views of the show. It was definately a different kind of photographic experience for me, though I tried to treat it like photographing a drummer. Catching some facial expressions and trying to capture her mallets in the air. The first photograph was taken at f/2.8, 1/320sec, ISO 3200 at 200mm. Here are some more photographs of her performance.
