With a history dating back more than 35 years, Voivod is probably the best known rock band to ever come out of Montreal. So, you may be asking, what were they doing at the International Festival de Jazz de Montreal? Well, the first line of their biography reads that the only thing predictable about Voivod is that they are always unpredictable. They were playing at the Club Soda and thanks to being an early arrival, I was front row center for the performance. Kind of necessary since there wasn't any reserved pit for the photographers. After being introduced, the band played a set perhaps more suited for Heavy Montreal then the Jazz Fest, but those in attendance were not complaining. The first photograph was taken at f/2.8, 1/400sec, ISO 3200 at 24mm. Here are several more photographs that I took during the show.

Again, I was pretty much limited to one side of the stage as my pushing and shoving game at these shows could use a little work. I was able to get upstairs after my three songs to grab a few shots from the balcony, so there is another vantage point. With that, my day the the Montreal International Jazz Festival came to an end. If you're just getting here, don't forget to take a look at the photographs of the other shows. Sasha Berliner, Laila Biali, La Force and René Lussier & Robbie Kuster. As for Voivod, don't forget to find out more about them by visiting their website.
